For the last few years, fans have likely been wondering what’s been going on with Zombie Cats. Friends and music-making partners for over 20 years, the trans-continental duo made a strong, neuro-styled name for themselves in their classic era, starting around 2015. They were Eatbrain and Blackout darlings for years whilst releasing on countless other big labels, bringing their uinque brand of twisted neuro to the world and establishing their own eponymous label. Time indeed marches on, however, and artists cannot be forced to stagnate in the same style forever, no matter how much the neuro mob wants to force it.
When COVID hit in 2020, everyone went a little wild with their work, and Zombie Cats were no exception. Things started to get a bit more atmospheric and artsy in early 2020 when the Cats partnered with underground esoteric label Galacy for a few releases. They were also featured on the Viper/Bassrush collab compilation that year with the slightly uncharacteristic ‘Before My Eyes’. The neuro punter head scratching really got going in early 2021, however, when the decidedly melodic ‘Make Me Move/No More’ single with Smooth and Sarah Pellicano appeared on Liquicity. Liquicity! One genuinely can’t say or see the words ‘Zombie Cats’ and ‘Liquicity’ without doing a double take, even today. It was a wild move for Zombie Cats, but a portend of things to come.
Since then, Ross and Rouven have toggled back and forth between neuro and not-so-neuro, with more melodic and techy releases on Liquicity, DeVice, Dispatch and even High Tea Recordings one one side, and neuro belters on the other side with the the usual suspects like Blackout, C4C, Eatbrain, Neuroheadz and their own Zombie Cats Label on the other. Has it been fun and interesting? Yes. Confusing? Also yes.
The Tech Dreams album released in April of 2023, and fans may not have known it then but it represented a shift in thinking and began to shape the future of Zombie Cats. Flash forward to lat later year, when they sat down to talk to Kmag for Sweat the Technique, the duo were literally split between two sounds: Undead: X Year Anniversary, the ZC ten-year anniversary compilation album had just dropped, and Tech Dreams | the Remixes was just about to release. It was and is a perfect time to officially announce what will be happening with the guys and their releases going forward. Listen below to find out how Ross and Rouven will be following their Tech Dreams in 2026 and beyond.
