The Young Musicians Guild (YMG) is well known throughout the UK for providing support and resources to young musical artists. Founded in 2020 by classical violist Paul Fitzgibbon, YMG works to get gigs and clients connected to musicians and vice versa, as well as providing resources for connection and forward movement. Currently operating as a non-profit, YMG offers teaching services as well as holding events to raise sustaining funds for its members. Membership is free to musicians looking to network, and now Fitzgibbon and company are getting ready to welcome electronic artists with their new venture, called Scordisci.
Like many young classical musicians and composers, Fitzgibbon’s interests intersect with electronic music and he himself is a producer. It was a foregone conclusion for him that YMG would eventually open up its ranks to electronic artists, and very recently he was able to open the Scordisci label and event series. With the intention of building that side of YMG, the group will be holding its first Scordisci event this Thursday, 29th August in the Hackney area of London. Framed as an album launch party, the event will have DJ performances by accomplished electronic artists including Fitzgibbon himself, along with loads of networking opportunities with all sorts of musicians.
If unable to attend this event, keep an eye on this up-and-coming label and consider joining YGM. Tickets are available on Resident Advisor with free entry before 20:00.
