Gobi Desert Collective Drop Soothing Remix To “Air & Darkness” Via Magnetic Magazine Recordings

Gobi Desert Collective has risen to become a pivotal force in the down-tempo and melodic down-tempo scene. Renowned not only for their exceptional production but also for curating a highly regarded playlist that consistently showcases the latest underground gems in the genre, they’ve built a reputation for their impeccable taste.

They recently unveiled their latest release, which is a remix of Tiago Dima & Will Vance’s “Air & Darkness” via Magnetic Magazine Recordings. It seamlessly fuses traditional world music elements with blissful synth melodies. Rich with texture and layered instrumentation, the remix captures the essence of Gobi Desert Collective’s expansive musical approach that continues to mark them as a standout talent.

Speaking to the remix, they share:

It feels like it is just trial and error until something sticks. We try a lot of the same stuff, to be honest, but I bring new ideas easily. We get the midi from a melody/harmony/drum and start using new sounds for that midi. Then, if that doesn’t sound good, we will start cutting up the midi or looping some parts we like.

Also, just one vocal shot, guitar lick, or piano key with a ton of reverb can be used as a pad or sort of downlifter for transitions. Reverse stuff, using a lot of delay, and then use that recording as some melodic percussion element in the back. White noise at random places can be used for atmosphere.

Lately, we have also been using the plugin Cube a lot. Throw in a vocal or guitar lick and move it around in 3d space, add some weird effects and you have new textures and atmospheres.
