Diffrent is a new drum & bass record label, set up to do exactly what the name suggests, and produce something a little out of the ordinary. Not quite falling into the increasingly popular minimalist bracket, nor churning out dancefloor bangers, Diffrent seeks to bridge the divide between dubstep and drum & bass with a truly unique sound.
Label co-owner Jamie (Hunchbak) is excited by the unique Diffrent sound. “First and foremost it has to have that head nod vibe to it,” he said, “we like to think of the music we produce as spacious with more emphasis on the important aspects of a tune, like the drums and the bass. Expect to hear some sounds you’ve not heard before, something suitable for your iPod and the dancefloor alike.”
Diffrent Music’s debut release features a track by Jamie himself, entitled 50 Hurts, as well as a tune called Depths by Cuelock. The tight beats and monstrous bass promoted at the label are clear for all to hear on the first offering, and Jamie is confident there’s more where that came from.
“We’ve got tunes forthcoming by some really talented producers,” he said, “Tightrope, Chills and Joe Syntax to name a few. We’re also running our quarterly Giraffecast, which features up-to-date news from the label and loads of exclusive music.”
