Bristolian music producer Uneven releases the ‘Density EP’ on self-proclaimed ‘risky bass music label’ Defrostatica. Released on September 13th. the EP includes three futuristic Jungle cuts with a faithful nod to the autonomic movement. Atop, Alley Cat graces us with a dark remix of title track ‘Density’.
Uneven is known for his excellent contributions to the autonomic sound, originally founded and championed by dBridge and Instra:mental. Additionally, he co-runs the Squares Music label with fellow music advocate Jaskin. Furthermore, he’s the driving force behind the Epified night, curating deep jungle drum and bass music. His versatile productions have found home on labels such as Doc Scott’s 31 Recordings, BCee’s Spearhead Recordings, Locked Concept and many more. Following are some words about the release by the creator himself.
With the ‘Density EP’ I took a little side step from the sound I’ve been known for mostly, step away from melodic and deep towards the gritty and more energetic vibe, transition from headphones to the dancefloor if you can put it that way. Working outside of my comfort zone has brought a lot of fun, was messing around with distortion and filter much more than I usually do, all that to achieve the grit I wanted to hear. Loved every bit of the process. Really happy to debut on Defrostatica with this EP, it’s the label I was following for the long time, label that always pushing the boundaries and bringing fresh sound. Really happy to join such a diverse roster of artists and looking forward to work more in the future.
Defrostatica hosts a variety of talented artists like Arcane & Jon1st, Sun People, Sinistarr, Yorobi, wrk.dat, HomeSick, Detroit’s Filthiest, Schmeichel & Shane Lizard, Greazus, Anna Morgan, BSN Posse, Pablo Dread, DjBadshape, Jermaine Soul & Utelka. The Leipzig-based label blends jungle, footwork, and juke, with each artist bringing a unique sound that reflects their cultural and musical background. This diversity and mutual influence define Defrostatica’s identity. Following are some words on the remix by Alley Cat herself.
This was a really fun project for me to start after my EP came out on Armory . I really resonated with the original so it was fun to try and find a way to make it my own but also stay true to the original’s fabulous beats and bass and darkness. Reframing it with extra haunty spooky vibes and some additional breaks and those horn layers. I wanted to make something that I would play myself as a DJ and it’s been a delight to do that on both club shows and on my Kool FM show and get a great response. But that started with the elements of the original tune so I’m lucky to have been able to put my spin on it.
